"I wanted it to be a place where you could bring your family and while the kids are eating a burger, parents could get a killer steak, fresh seafood, and great pasta." ~R E S H A H RESTAURANT SPOTLIGHT: JOJO'S ON BROADWAY Joe Resha, the owner of JoJo's on Broadway, grew up in a family of restaurateurs and the food business. He also spent a good part of his life living in Homewood and is a 1995 graduate of Homewood High School. After working in kitchens throughout Birmingham and then in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Resha returned to Birmingham after Hurricane Katrina. In 2011, Resha began thinking about opening his own restaurant with his father. "We looked all around town before fi nding our way back to Homewood," Resha recalls. "We found a small, hole-in-the- wall joint that I grew up in eating burgers & milkshakes, the previous Lag's Eatery— I was in love!" Resha opened JoJo's in April 2012 serving only breakfast and lunch. After a year in business, the space adjacent to JoJo's became available, and Resha decided to expand. "I decided the neighborhood needed a family owned and operated, casual, family-friendly place that served great food at a reasonable price and carried our outstanding local craft beers," Resha says. "I wanted it to be a place where you could bring your family and while the kids are eating a burger, parents could get a killer steak, fresh seafood, and great pasta." Married to his high-school sweetheart with two boys of his own, Resha wants to make JoJo's a Homewood landmark. "I'm trying to build something here for my family that I can pass on to my children," he says. A remodeling project will bring new colors, new fl ooring, recovered booths and a revamped menu. "I feel like the community has really embraced me and my family," Homewood resident Resha says. "I have the most loyal customers of any place I've ever been involved with." h o m e w o o d c h a m b e r. o r g 59
