h o m e w o o d c h a m b e r. o r g 47 Renaissance Erik Henninger, a West Homewood resident, is pleased with the plan and looks forward to seeing the improve- ments in West Homewood. "The future of West Homewood is very promising," Henninger says. "The city has invested in the infrastructure, and new businesses and residents are being attracted to West Homewood." Henninger married in 2007 and decided to stay in his house and grow his family. Today he and his wife have two children and are looking forward to walking their son to school at Hall-Kent. "West Homewood is affordable, and the neighborhood is improving. Hall-Kent Elementary is so great," Henninger says. "West Homewood has so much potential. I'd like to see a full court press on economic developmentā€”encouraging growth." Growth is evident in the new SEEDS coffee house, Homewood Diner, and Magic City Sweet Ice that opened this spring. Local attorney Morgan Duncan, with his wife Molly and brother Tyler, plans to open a neighborhood deli named Oak & Raleigh in July. Duncan is another young professional drawn to West Homewood for its affordable real estate and growing neighborhoods. "We were looking for a house in other areas of the city, but someone told us about the West Homewood project, and we were sold," Duncan says. "There are so many young professionals and young families moving to the neighborhood," Duncan says. Another sign of growth are the three new houses under construction across from Hall-Kent Elementary School. Twin Construction is building the houses and sold all three before ground was broken. Henninger and others are excited for what the future holds and are happy to be on the front lines as renaissance comes to West Homewood. "West Homewood has so much potential; there is a strong sense of community here," Henninger says. "We love West Homewood." H
